Deploying OpenStack with Cisco networking, compute, & storage

One of Cisco’s key contributions within OpenStack has been the evolution and development of Neutron, the OpenStack Networking Service. Using Neutron’s plug-in model, Cisco has integrated both its Network Function Virtualization, Unified Fabric, and Application-Centric Infrastructure (ACI) products to simplify the deployment of highly scalable, manageable, and secure networks.

This session will show how the addition of Cisco networking solutions can help orchestrate Red Hat’s entire OpenStack deployment, including networking, compute, and storage.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 beta file systems: New scale, speed, & features

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 beta brings many changes in the file and storage world. Most significant is the choice of XFS as our default file system for all support architectures. This will expand the size of a single file system up to 500TB in supported configurations. The file system stack will also take advantage of support for a wide variety of new storage devices and is tuned to run with better latency and higher speeds on very high speed SSD storage devices. In this session, Ric Wheeler will detail these NFS and GFS2 changes.

Configuring a disaster-resilient Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization environment

The new community dynamic for open source: CentOS & Red Hat

CentOS and Red Hat are embarking on a new journey together in the future of community development platforms. “CentOS and Red Hat joining forces” wasn’t a headline many Linux users expected to hear at the beginning of 2014. Now that the news is out, it’s time to write the next chapter of the CentOS story; and in this session, you’ll get a first-row seat to hear what’s coming next.

The “new CentOS” is expanding in scope to become more focused on additional community developments and domains. It will have an open governance that allows interested developers to build and maintain variants of CentOS, which can include new software and changes to any core component for that variant. Since the announcement of this special interest group (SIG)-driven process, many people have stepped forward to form SIGs around cloud (including OpenStack and OpenShift Origin), web hosting, desktops, and so forth.

In this session, you’ll get a chance to meet, hear from, and ask questions of several CentOS Board members. These include long-time CentOS contributors and members of the newly convened Governing Board, who are instrumental in engaging with Red Hat and helping to shape the new CentOS.

Deploying Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform in the enterprise with FlexPod

While several enterprise customers are considering open source solutions such as OpenStack, many don’t want to give up the level of support or integration they’ve come to depend on. They also don’t want to deploy OpenStack on an infrastructure that is difficult to scale up or automate. So what’s the solution?

Deploying Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform on FlexPod provides a fully supported cloud platform that can scale, while also providing all of the APIs needed to automate the infrastructure. In this session, you’ll learn how to deploy Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform with the FlexPod datacenter solution, a pre-validated, scale-out infrastructure built with Cisco UCS, Cisco Nexus, and NetApp storage.

Scholastic moves to the cloud with Red Hat

Scholastic is working with Red Hat to transform publishing industry IT, allowing the faster, cheaper, more consistent, and more reliable delivery of IT services.

The problem: Datacenters with proprietary hardware and software required capital investments for each new business initiative. Therefore, an excessive amount of time was required to order and build all the systems by hand, which increased the time to market and reduced business agility. Governance was a collection of documents that had to be followed manually, audited manually, and maintained manually.

The solution: Using Red Hat solutions, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and automation tools, Scholastic was able to provide solutions to the businesses in a completely different, innovative way. (The solutions included: Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Cloud Access, Red Hat Satellite, Directory Server, Red Hat JBoss EAP, Red Hat Fuse, Red Hat JBoss Data Grid, and OpsCode Chef.) These solutions are enabling Scholastic to into a public cloud while removing the datacenter management obligation entirely.

The result: Scholastic provisioned a server and deployed a new Red Hat JBoss Middleware application in development within 1 hour, and will have more than 90% of its applications in the cloud this year.
